Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation

The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation's Community Health Advisors' (CHAs) Breast Health Outreach Program focuses on 1)Recruiting medically underserved African American women (ages 40-64) in the rural Mississippi Delta for both first time screening and annual screening; 2) Linking medically underserved women with a healthcare provider to obtain annual clinical breast exams and mammograms with follow-up counseling and education; 3) Increasing awareness about the MS Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (MS BCCP) and the importance of early detection of breast cancer through clinical breast exam (CBE) or breast self-examination (BSE); and 4) Educating women about Medicaid and Medicare coverage of annual screening mammograms and assist them in obtaining the service from providers who accept Medicaid and/or Medicare.
