Caring Connections Bangor YMCA

Caring Connections is a non-profit cooperative program of the Bangor YMCA and Eastern Maine Medical Center, providing outreach, education, advocacy and support, as well as access to quality breast and cervical health services. Our primary goal is to improve the physical and emotional health/wellness of women in northern and downeast Maine. With support from Avon BHOP we will reach, enroll and navigate 200 low income women into our no-cost breast health program. Barrier reduction services such as transportation will be provided when needed. Further diagnostic testing and treatment services will be provided by Eastern Maine Medical Center when necessary. Caring Connections will provide outreach and information on breast health to at least 3000 women in our geographic target with a strong focus on rural communities.

Healthy Community Coalition

Healthy Community Coalition’s (HCC) breast cancer awareness program will provide breast health education and navigate medically underserved men and women to breast cancer screening services and follow-up care as needed in Franklin County, Maine. The program will provide outreach in a variety of settings and expand outreach activities to include special strategies to reach very isolated, medically underserved women to ensure they receive regular screening in accordance with recommended screening guidelines and proper follow-up care.  Strategies include Mobile Health Unit screening days throughout the county, home visits to educate women about the importance of mammography and the use of a newly revised online tool called The Community Connector.   These activities will build upon Healthy Community Coalition’s successful breast cancer awareness initiative funded by Komen Maine.
