The Avon BHOP grantees continue to reach underserved women. Here are a few key data points from the 2015 Final Client Intake Form (CIF) Summary Report. (N = 42,689)

Mammogram Type:

  • 91.4% of the mammograms were screenings
  • 7.4% were diagnostic

Sex:

  • 98.6% of the clients were females

Average age was 52 (83% between the age of 40-64)

Annual Income Level:

  • 45.8% had income levels under $15,000
  • 25% had an income of $15-$25,000
  • 86.2% earned under $50,000
  • 4.1% had incomes over $50,000
  • 9.7% did not know or did not respond

68% of clients lived in urban areas

Race/Ethnicity data:

  • Hispanic: 36.5% as compared with 2014 US Census estimate 17.4%
  • African American: 17.4% as compared with 2014 US Census estimate 13.2%
  • Asian: 11.3% as compared with 2014 US Census estimate 5.4%
  • American Indian or Native Alaskan: 4.0% as compared with 2014 US Census estimate 1.2%

Education Level:

  • 48% report having only a high school degree or less

Family History of Breast Cancer:

  • 50% report a first degree relative having been diagnosed with breast cancer

Insurance Status:

  • 57% are uninsured
  • 23% are on Medicaid or Medicare
  • 1.8% on Indian Health Service
  • 33.1% stated they did not seek mammography services due to lack of insurance or too expensive.

Primary Health Care Provider:

  • In the past year, 32% used a Community Health Center for their primary health services
  • 23% used a medical provider and 24% did not have any health care

Payor Source:

  • 43.8% of all of the screening were paid for by BCCEDP
  • 28.3% by client’s insurance
  • 15.3% by Komen Foundation
  • 9.3% by state funds
