One in eight women receives a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime. On October 18 and 19, in an effort to lower this statistic, thousands of walkers dressed in pink took to the streets of New York City for the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. More than 3,000 walkers participated and raised $6.7 million to provide outreach and navigation services for breast cancer screening and treatment for underserved women.

A long time partner of the Avon Foundation for Women, CAI celebrates its 15th year as the grants manager for Avon's community-based programs. During these 15 years, CAI has been proud to support the work of grantees around the country who excel in their efforts to provide breast cancer screening and treatment for women in vulnerable communities. Through 2013, Avon Breast Health Outreach grantees had facilitated more than 1.3 million mammograms and breast examinations and educated over 12 million people on breast cancer awareness.

In addition to working with the Avon Foundation for Women as a grants manager, our staff, families and friends supported the New York City Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with enthusiastic cheering stations on both days. CAI's Avon Project Director, Kathryn Gates-Ferris, participated in the closing ceremony at Hudson River Park's Pier 84 and accepted a check for $2,750,000 for our continued work with the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program.
