Many of you met Melanie Steilen at the Avon Forum last month and heard her wonderful presentation on Care for the Caregiver, the link of which is provided above but here is an official introduction and a little bit about Melanie.
Melanie Steilen, RN, BSN, ACRN joins the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program team in January of 2014. She is the Co-Director of the Clinical Division, Senior Clinical Trainer and Coordinator of Nursing Continuing Education at CAI. Throughout her tenure at CAI, she has been responsible for the development, design and implementation of training programs for health care professionals. She had been a lead faculty for the NYNJ AIDS Education Training Center and trains at all NYC HHC sites.
Ms. Steilen has over 30 years of clinical, research, administrative, and teaching experience as a Registered Nurse. Ms Steilen has worked in numerous countries assisting with the development, training and technical assistance of Home Based Care Workers, Peer Navigators and Clinical staff. Topics of expertise include, but are not limited to: Reaching the Most at Risk Clients, Talking about Tough Topics, Intimate Partner Violence, Incorporating Chronic Disease Management in HIV Care, Palliative Care, Mental Health and HIV, Prevention with Positives, Adolescents Disclosure Issues, Behavior Change and the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing.
