Committed to the Cause: The YWCA ENCOREplus of Greater Baton Rouge supports “Pink with a Purpose” at Southern University

Avon BHOP grantees continue to forge innovative relationships to reach underserved communities! Avon BHOP Grantee Ramona Boatner of the YWCA ENCOREplus program promoted breast health services by serving as a speaker at the October 2012 "Pink with a Purpose" event in Baton Rouge, co-sponsored by the Southern University School of Business, 100 Black Women and 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge (non-profit social service agencies). The event was attended by students who expressed an interest in learning more about breast cancer, its impact on Baton Rouge, early detection and how they could become breast health advocates in their local communities. "It was touching to see students who wanted to know how they could support their family members who have been impacted by breast cancer," said Ms. Boatner. Jennifer Peters, an annual donor to the YWCA, along with the American Baptist Women Sisterhood facilitated the long-term relationship with this group of students. Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church generously hosted the breast health education event.
