This webinar, designed for oncology nurses and patient navigators, reviewed the role of Herceptin in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. Several situational case studies were examined to address a diverse subset of patient needs and proper treatment protocol.

Follow-up of Abnormal Screening Mammograms Among Low-income Ethnically Diverse Women

Dr. Jennifer D. Allen discussed factors influencing whether women receive diagnostic services following an abnormal mammogram screening. Her presentation included strategies to improve timely diagnostic follow-up among underserved groups. The importance of addressing patient beliefs and attitudes as well as provider practices and communications were also highlighted.

The presentation provided information on female sexuality after a breast cancer diagnosis. Key learning objectives included: understanding the importance of intimacy and sexuality; describing the barriers to sexuality and sexual function; explaining how women can enhance sexuality and sexual function.

Fertility Issues to Consider with a Breast Cancer Diagnosis in Pre-Menopausal Women
This webinar provided an overview of important reproductive health issues to consider when faced with a cancer diagnosis. Participants learned about cancer patients' risks for infertility, special considerations, parenthood options, resources, and available support.

2009 Overview of NBCCEDP
The CDC’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) provides access to critical breast and cervical cancer screening services for underserved women in the United States.  Ms. Faye Wong, Chief, Program Services Branch, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the CDC provided an update and overview of the program, and shared some current program priorities.

The presentation included a Q&A session, discussion of sources of treatment for women with cancer who are screened by the NBCCEDP, and references to the national discussion on health care reform and the potential implications for NBCCEDP.

Dr. Rowan Chlebowski presented the latest information on breast cancer detection and advances in screening technology. Current breast cancer treatments and management also discussed.
